Introducing an exciting new Prenatal Testing Service

01 July 2015

Emma Parry

We are delighted to announce a new service at Ascot Radiology: Non Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) for Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome).

The new service will commence on 3rd August 2015
and bookings will be open from 20th July 2015 with a referral from a doctor or midwife.

The addition of this service to our obstetric scanning services will allow us to provide a comprehensive first trimester screening service for aneuploides and structural defects of the fetus. Developed and overseen by Dr Emma Parry, (left) Subspecialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine, this service will provide:

  • The only Auckland-based provider with counselling included in all packages.
  • The only Auckland-based provider with a turnaround of less than one week.

The team will also include Ms Alison Hedge, Fetal Medicine Midwife, and qualified Genetic Counsellors.

Testing will be done in Melbourne by the Victorian Clinical Genetics Service (VCGS) using a deep sequencing technique. This has advantages including:

  • Improved accuracy.
  • Faster turnaround times.
  • Very low failure rate.
  • The ongoing commitment by VCGS to deliver a personalised service for LMCs, women, and the team at Insight+Ascot Radiology.

This group have a proven track record and will provide an excellent service.

We have developed three packages - Level 1: Silver, Level 2: Gold and Level 3: Platinum. These packages reflect our awareness that women will have several different requirements. For more information on each package, and the most up to date prices, please click here.

Initially, appointments for Level 1 and 2 packages will be scheduled on a Monday morning only with results expected to be returned on the Friday of the same week. Appointments for Level 3 packages will be on a Friday morning with results expected the following Friday. We are expecting to have more availability throughout the week as the service grows.

Please note that the earliest gestation the test can be performed is 10 weeks and 0 days. Prior to this there is a higher chance of a failed sample.

Women who have had a high risk MSS1, or are not reassured by their risk from MSS1, can also be referred to the service. However if the risk is greater than 1 in 50 an invasive test is recommended.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or feedback. We look forward to providing an excellent service to the women in your care.
