Sialogram



What is it?


This study investigates the salivary glands in the mouth.

What does it involve?


The patient lies on the x-ray table and a small plastic catheter is inserted into the opening of the particular salivary gland to be investigated. Contrast medium (dye) is slowly injected and x-rays are taken to demonstrate the anatomy of the gland. At the end of the examination, The patient is given some lemon juice to swill around their mouth to make the gland expel the contrast.

How long will it take?


This examination takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
